BMW X5 Warning Lights

There are two types of dashboard lights: warning lights and indicator lights. Warning lights alert you of malfunctions indicated by the BMW X5’s system and may require immediate attention.

Stay Safe and Look Out for These Lights on Your Dashboard

When these lights appear on your dashboard, it’s usually a sign that there may be a safety issue that needs immediate attention. If this occurs while you are driving, make sure they receive the proper service.

• Airbag System: This light shows a person sitting in a seat with a seat belt on, accompanied by a large circle in front. When this appears, it indicates that your airbags are deactivated and will not deploy in the case of an accident. If this occurs, get your X5 checked out as soon as possible.
• Antilock Braking System (ABS): On your dashboard, it will show as an illuminated “ABS.” When this warning light appears, it means a deactivation in your X5’s antilock system due to a malfunction.
• Check Engine Light: The check engine light looks like a vehicle engine block with “CHECK” underneath it. Though this light doesn’t also mean an emergency, it’s still a good idea to get your X5 looked at by a technician to ensure your vehicle is in good shape.

When indicator lights appear on your dashboard, there’s no need to worry.

Indicator lights are there to help you know what systems are active in your BMW X5. These are different from warning lights, as they usually are not activated by malfunctions in your vehicle.

Indicator Lights and Their Functions

Now that we’ve talked about the difference between warning lights and indicator lights, let’s dive into some indicator lights that show different activated systems:

• Fog Lamps: This looks like a headlight with lines to the left and a strikethrough. These lights help other drivers see your X5 when in thick fog.
• Night Vision: If your X5 has Night Vision, the light will show a road with a moon to the left of it. When activated, it allows you to utilize the thermal camera for improved night visibility.
• Daytime Running Lights: When the daytime running lights are not activated, they will show an “OFF” illuminated on the dashboard.
